Consider getting a used BVW-35. They are small portables that accept
30-minute tapes max. This provides the quality of top-of-the-line Beta
decks, significantly better than UVW. I used to own a UVW-1800 and animation
is the one thing I would NOT recommend them for. Cost is $6500 - $8000,
depending on where you buy and what a deck's history is. Once you find one
you like, use it for a week or so before you buy, unless you get it from
someone you know and are familiar with the deck's history. One additional
cost is a breakout box or cable; the BVW-35's component input is through the
camera connector only. Don't wast any time with its composite in. If you
ever build a full nonlinear system, component out of the deck is through the
Dub connector, standard on all Beta decks. You will need a breakout box for
it as well.

As with all used gear, buyer beware! Shake it down good and don't accept any
talk.
